Win your dream (bike) journey with Honda

Honda has launched a #HondaPassport competition, offering one lucky winner the chance to create their dream journey worth £5000.

All you need to do to is fill your Honda Passport with stamps by tweeting your own photos, with #HondaPassport hashtag on Twitter.

All images will be automatically uploaded to the content hub www.myjourneys.com/HondaPassport where you will receive a stamp in your Honda Passport. There are 20 stamp categories to collect and the type of stamp received depends on the content of the picture.

The more stamps received the better your chance of winning the £5000 dream journey. Honda will then shortlist 10 passports and ask the public to vote and ultimately decide the winner.

The campaign itself is part of Honda’s global #myjourney campaign which was inspired by Jon Hancock, a Honda customer, who travelled around the world with his wife in their 1987 Honda Civic. Eight years ago Jon’s very own epic journey started, with the aim of travelling to his cars birth place of Suzuka, Japan.

Feel free to post as many pictures of your motorcycle (with Metzeler rubber fitted, naturally) as you like for the competition!

BMW R 1200 GS and Charley Boorman finish epic 10-week USA adventure

Charley Boorman has just finished riding around the USA for 10 weeks aboard a new BMW R 1200 GS.

Criss-crossing America on the water-cooled Beemer, which is shod with Metzeler Tourance Next EXP rubber as standard fitment, Charley filmed his new TV series, Extreme Frontiers: USA.

Along the way, Charley’s adventures included braving the frozen Alaskan wilderness for hostile environment training with the US Army, diving in Pearl Harbour to see the wrecks and flying a replica of the Wright Brothers’ fabric and string glider at Kitty Hawk.

    Death-Valley

He made his way from Hawaii to Alaska, via New York, Utah, Montana and California, plus many more states and cities. The 5000-mile trip was on Tarmac, desert, gravel and dirt, putting the 1200 GS to the test in some of the most challenging – and spectacular – locations in North America.

Charley’s ride was made even more memorable by once-in-a-lifetime events, including flash flooding in the driest place in the world (Death Valley), being battered by squalls and storms while sailing a tall ship out of Boston Harbour, and racing along the beautiful and vast Bonneville Salt Flats, home to countless land speed records through history.

The Extreme Frontiers: USA programme will be broadcast on Channel Five later this year.

Metzeler Tourance Next is top tyre again!

Proof again that the new Metzeler Tourance Next rubber has won the latest street enduro tyre  shoot-out by German mag Motorrad!

The Tourance Next was put up against rivals Michelin Anakee 3, Bridgestone Battle Wing 501/502, Continental TrailAttack 2, Dunlop Trailmax TR91 and Pirelli Scorpion Trail. All of the tyres tested were used in the 110/80 R19 and 150/70 R17 sizes and mounted on six Triumph Tiger Explorer motorcycles.

The six tyre models were tested at two different times: first when the tyres were fresh from the factory and then after 4000 km in order to verify wear and mileage of both the front and the rear. Tests were also conducted on the road at legal speeds (motorway and A roads), plus wet testing.

    Tour Next action

For  testing in the wet, held on a irrigated track, Motorrad also took into consideration the braking distance at a speed of 100 kph, the average travel speed and lap times. The Metzeler Tourance Next came out on top over the competition.

The dry testing included handling, steering precision, stability in turns, grip in leans, traction in acceleration, stability on a straight line under full load, performance with a pillion, performance in conditions at the limit and maintaining the trajectory when braking in turns.

In the end, the Motorrad testers voted the Tourance Next as the best enduro street tyre because it is the one that demonstrated the best balanced performance in all the conditions taken into consideration during the tests, specifically thanks to the excellent performance in the dry combined with the excellent wet advantages too.

    Metzeler supports ride to Uzbekistan

Another day, another adventure – but this time it is all the way to the ancient city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

This latest project is a collaboration between Metzeler and BMW, will see Miquel Silvestre, a Spanish journalist specialising in touring by bike, ride the famous ‘Ruta Embajada in Samarkand’ (more than 10,000 kilometres), on the new BMW R1200GS equipped with Metzeler Tourance Next and Karoo tyres.

Silvestre will start his adventure on 16 March from Madrid, going on to cross Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, arriving at the famous Uzbek city Samarkand and then ending in Formigal (Spain) at the beginning of September.

The ride will replicate the historical trip the Castilian writer and traveller Ruy González de Clavijo made during 1403 to 1405 to Tamerlane, to see for himself the famous Silk Road in his capacity as ambassador of Henry III of Castile to the court of Timur. Samarkand itself is most noted for its central position on the Silk Road between China and the West.

Silvestre has named his water-cooled GS Victoria in honour of a Spanish navy training ship. Silvestre was born in Valencia and has been a writer for several years. Today he is a journalist that rides his bike and tells the world and his tour by publishing his experiences through books and reports. Metzeler chose Silvestre because for his passion for motorcycles, adventure and travel, something which Metzeler shares.

The Tourance Nexts are versatile tyres with excellent performances both on the road and off-road. The Karoos are fantastic at coping with difficult off-road conditions such as mud and sand. The ‘Ruta Embajada to Samarkand’ will be reported by Silvestre weekly.
