Guy Martin is first in his class at Pikes Peak!
It was such a great day yesterday for Metzeler and Guy Martin at the 2014 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb! Riding his Martek Custom Turbo bike shod with Metzeler Racetec RR tyres, Guy came first in the Exhibition class of this incredible race.
Both Metzeler and Guy Martin were making their debut here; the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is a fascinating competition that takes place every year on a mountain with a 14,115 feet high summit and located near Colorado Springs, at the eastern end of the Rocky Mountains.
The starting point is situated at an altitude of 9390 feet; the race route is 12.42 miles long an average gradient of 7%, increasing to 10.5% before the finish line.
Guy Martin’s Martek Custom Turbo bike is a 1991, 1380cc Suzuki GSX-R 1100, rebuilt using racing suspension and brakes, a Martek chassis and swingarm, electronic fuel injection and a turbocharger that brings the total horsepower up to 550bhp.
He fitted his motorcycle with Metzeler’s Racetec RR rubber: it was developed for road racing competitions. The tyres have been used successfully during this year’s North West 200 and TT events, and now has a new tread pattern, new profiles and new compounds for the dual-compound rear tyre.
