Almost time for new Metzeler Karoo Extreme tyres to make their Dakar Rallye debut!

One of the most challenging motorcycle races on earth, the Dakar Rallye, will be the testing ground for the new prototype Metzeler Karoo Extreme tyres in a few weeks’ time.

The new Honda CRF450 Rally bike will be fitted with the new prototype Metzeler Karoo Extreme tyres to take on this year’s 36th Dakar Rallye – it will take place from 5 to 18 of January 2014 in Argentina, Bolivia and Chile.

Metzeler has been chosen by Team HRC Rally, the Honda works motorcycle rally team, as tyre supplier and technical partner to face the toughest raids and rally competitions in the world together.

Riders Helder Rodrigues, Sam Sunderland and Javier Pizzolito will all ride bikes fitted with the new Karoo Extreme rubber. These tyres – to be used in the competitions in which Team HRC Rally will take part – are prototype tyres not available for general sale because they are specifically developed for competitions in collaboration with Team HRC Rally.

The rear tyre has been specifically developed to provide a 0-degree steel belt, together with a four-ply carcass and a new generation of compounds featuring Metzeler’s exclusive mixing process: all these elements combined together are able to ensure excellent durability and resistance for the tyre and to offer top performance throughout the entire race.

The front tyre is available in two different versions to cope with all types of terrain, from hard and rocky to soft sand.
