Metzeler shod Honda CRF450 Rally bike wins Merzouga Rally!
Honda’s new CRF450 Rally machine chalks up another success as rider Team HRC rider Sam Sunderland wins the Merzouga Rally. His team-mate Hélder Rodrigues finished in second place.
The new CRF450 Rally bike has had an amazing rally season so far, already claiming two renowned African rally victories – first the Morocco Rally just one week ago by rider Paulo Gonçalves, and now the Merzouga Rally, too. The CRF450 is using as standard fitment the Metzeler prototype Karoo Extreme tyres, which have proved excellent in the tough terrain.
Young British rider Sam Sunderland claimed the Merzouga Rally win in fine style in a spectacular final stage. The competitors headed out in line from Erfoud and rode just a 72-kilometre route through the hue Erg Rissani and Erg Chebbi sand dune. First across the line was Sunderland, picking up his second stage win, as well as becoming the overall race winner, after holding on to the lead from the third stage.
The next stop for Team HRC and the CRF450 Rally machine is Argentina, where the most gruelling off-road rally in the world awaits: the infamous Dakar. This will be the ultimate test, that starts on 5 January 2014.
