Metzeler rider Jonny Walker dominates Red Bull enduro event

Metzeler KTM Enduro Factory Team rider Jonny Walker has won the 2013 Red Bull Sea to Sky three-day off-road event in Kemer, Turkey.

A favourite for the opening deep-sand Beach race event, Walker won it with ease. He started the 20-minute race inside the top five and got in the lead by the end of the first lap.

On the second day, the race was held in the forest, with the finishing order determining the starting positions for the third and final day’s race in the mountains. Walker pushed hard to open up a lead on the technical but fast flowing course, and won the race, too.

On the third day, it was Mountain race time, the decider. Lining up on the beach, riders had to race 50 kilometres to the finish on top of the 2365m summit of the Olympus Mountain.Walker  managed to grab the holeshot; at the  halfway  stage,  he increased his lead over  fellow extreme enduro rider Graham  Jarvis to almost three minutes. Despite losing time on the challenging Dark Canyon  climb,Walker managed to maintain his previous pace and got away from Jarvis to claim his third and final victory of the event.

Jonny Walker:  “I’m so happy to have won. Up until now I’ve had a disappointing season and I was determined to turn it around here in Turkey. Winning the Beach Race set me on the right track. For the Forest Race I felt very comfortable with the terrain and pushed at about 80%. That victory gave me a lot of confidence leading into the Mountain Race.

“I focused on getting a good start and as soon as I got into the lead I rode at my maximum. I made one mistake at the Dark Canyon and Jarvis caught me again. But I refused to lose and gave it everything I had over the mountain stretch to win. It’s an incredible feeling to be back on top of the podium again. This win means a lot and hopefully it’s the start of more to come.”
